I was very tempted to discuss Jeremiah chapter 5 today. It was written about 2500 years ago. But seems to describe the modern world pretty accurately.
A world that has forsaken God and worships Gods that are not gods (money, fame, celebrity, science). Well fed and lusty people lusting after other men's wives.
My personal faves are verses 27-28. They have become rich and powerful. They have grown fat and sleek. They do not seek justice. They do not promote the cause of the fatherless. They do not defend the just cause of the poor.
When I was reading it I got a strong image of all those Tea Party activists (majority claiming christian status) carrying signs saying: "you have no right to what I have earned"
A statement true in 2010 USA. But one it seems the prophets in the bible (not to mention Jesus) would disagree with.
Let's hope what happened after they ignored Jeremiah won't happen here. It will be like the first act of independence day!
Oh. It seems I have discussed jeremiah chapter five after all.
Enjoy Christmas and spare a thought for the poor.
