Well Bozo predicted 4 out of 4 QFs.
Of Bozo's ''5 teams with "good" winning chances 3 remain. Croatia are a defendable member of that group if you look at the difficulty of their group and compare their performance v Italy with England's. As for France. Well clearly a cock up. Bozo believed the hype of their unbeaten run.
At the weekend Bozo predicted Spain to beat Portugal and Germany to beat Italy. They still look good. Which leaves Bozo's pre tournament vote for Italy looking - well - wrong!
However. Italy were profligate against England and should have won 3-0 in regulation. Defence is England's strong suit. So. Italy WILL create chances v Germany. Putting away an early and ideally first goal will make the game more 50-50 than it currently looks. Wednesday night looks to be the festival for neutrals though.
As for England. Predictable no? Surviving 120 flattered them in talent terms.
Gold stars for defending.
Gold stars for guts.
Gold stars for team spirit and unity.
But talent? Technical ability? Alan Shearer had England as 5th or 6th globally. Hello? 15th more like.
Roy H will benefit from the fact that after 20 years of foreigners in the premiership the media and the man in the street both now know:
A) what good looks like technically
And
B). That England's 23 are not close to it yet.
That should make expectations more realistic for him. And his job easier.
BUT. Hold on. Surely the question is why????
Yup.
And the answer is simple.
From the age of 8 an English footballer learns that the only thing that matters are results. Not learning and development. Just results.
This breeds a nation of footballers with spirit and determination and a winning culture. But when you get to international level. Everyone in the tournament has proved themselves to have that attitude. And in a battle between the two - the ones that have learned to play football technically well will always win.
End of.
Except to say... Doesn't this sound business familiar? Its all about winning now - short term?
Indeed. Technically. English managers are the least trained and educated in the world. Indeed in many industries "management" is seen as a distraction from "doing work". Certainly that is true in my old stamping ground - the City trading room.
In my courses I frequently tell delegates this:
If someone comes up to you at work. With an issue. And you are on the phone to a friend. Arranging a social event. They will wait till you are finished. Because you chatting on the phone makes you "busy".
If instead you are sitting and thinking about the biggest problem in the business. Trying to find a solution. They will interrupt you. Because sitting their thinking is not seen as "busy".
Go figure.
