I am no big fan of listening to recordings when I call a service provider - but then again - I don't know who is.
My particular irritant is the phrase:
Your call is important to us.
Because I believe it is a bare faced lie.
If my call was important to you, I would be speaking to a person, not a machine.
When your Chief Exec calls Goldmans to discuss your IPO, does he speak to a recording?
NO! Because HIS call is important to them!
If my call was important to you - I'd be speaking to a person.
In fact if my call was VERY important to you, I'd be speaking to a person IN MY COUNTRY.
Someone you employed in my country, to boost the economy of my country and reduce unemployment in my country - because you want to use the money I and others in my country like me pay you to support the country we live in and stop it going to hell in a hand basket.
But no, you let me speak to a recording - and a disinegenuous recording at that.
So, at least be honest with me - at least let the machine say to me:
Your call is moderately important to us. But not as important as paying massive dividends to our shareholders. or as important as paying massive bonuses to the senior management. Despite the fact that the shareholders are already getting 15-20% ROI in a world where interest rates are 0.5% we want to give them more so they won't be peeved. And even though our CEO hase three homes and 5 cars we need to pay him another 7 figure bonus because its hard to find CEOs who can make people redundant and replace them with machines that make you queue on a phone line that isn't even free, it's national rate.
But, deal with it dude, if you take your business elsewhere you will (a) not upset us all that much and (b) still be talking to a machine anyway.
So, you remain in a queue, talking to a machine, because frankly we don't give a toss about you. And by the way we just made 50p while you listened to that KACHING!
At least be honest with me.
